Beauty & the Beast🌹

(This poem was inspired by the Disney classic “beauty and the beast” and the Netflix show “queen charlotte” and added my own twist.

Skin deep was where her beauty dwelled,
Far beyond the exterior shell.
Her father knew to name her “belle”
Born with a soul that lit the darkest night,
A presence that could calm any fight.
Precious is her dove
Within her garden was love
Curiosity was her philosophy,
Once all of her imagination was explored,
She still yearned for more.
On a cool spring
She caught the gaze of
a king turned beast.
For his castle built on a hill,
He overlooked the land,
He had everything his flesh desired
But absent of a loving hand.
Soul wearied and punctured,
everything that flows through it would drain.
Nothing ever seemed to penetrate.
Such a shame.

Never in his wildest dreams could he conceive
His soul having needs beyond the physical things.
He came to accept his fate, without a fight
The seasons were slow to change out of spite
The hottest of summers couldn’t melt his ice.
But as winter approaches it’s end,
During spring, the earth doesn’t stop to spin
It wasn’t the warmth of the outside but within
That could finally let love in.

the warmth of a beauty, the beauty named belle.
He’d seen her around but didn’t know her well.
He watched her before he approached,
he knew he’d choke the day they spoked.
he had to learn her ways,
For hours, months, consumed his days.
In a daze.
Upon the delay,
Could one ever imagine a beast
being afraid of his prey?
Afraid to love her
To hold her,
To break her,
With a grip too tight,
it wouldn’t be a fair fight
“Bring her to me,” a request from the king
“I prepare to lock her away
and throw away the key.
From this day forward,
She belongs to me.
Prepare the palace for the future queen.
Supply the rooms of all her favorite things.”
The king's men returned to the palace with belle,
If she were afraid, he couldn’t tell.
She smiles and asked “why am I here?
He replies “to make you mine, my dear.”
Dinner in the night,
But she didn’t have much of an appetite.
They became acquainted,
She only knew him as the king
but not the beast.
And he only knew her beauty.

As time passed,
For this love wasn’t written to last
Was it an mistake he had crossed her path?
And is it punishment for wanting someone
whom you shouldn’t have?
Reaching for what you shouldn’t grab,
Cause everything he’s ever had
Starts whole then breaks in half.
Opposites attracted, could be destined?
Her heart awakened his souls connection.
He was drawn and longed for her touch,
Nothing was ever enough.
Enjoying the view under the moon,
Bathsheba bathing on the roof.
But then he awakened from a deep sleep,
And realized it was only a dream
and decided it was best if he just let the girl be,
To preserve the beauty is to tame the beast.
