the gospel in the details
i have always been a lover of music. from the sound of music, down to the lyrics, especially the lyrics. i've studied because we study what we love, right? well although i have done away with secular music and only will fill my spirit with praise and worship music, there are still certain secular songs that have gospel inspired lyrics and sounds that i will come back and revisit for nostalgic purposes.
black music specifically originates from the church but we've come so far away from that. Notice how much the church actually influences the culture but we tend to think it's the other way around. Not so. God is the creator and the devil of this world is the imitator. Forgive me, Let me get back on topic.
I know that no matter how much the world attempts to leave God out the equation, he will always reveal his glory in the midst, he is in everything and he is everywhere. i recently realized many secular love songs, happen to have scripture inspired lyrics. I like to call it, "Gospel in the details". Because it's not so obvious but if you know, then you know. The scripture in the lyrics of the song i am posting below is inspired by none other than the Song of Solomon also known as the Song of all songs, the most beautiful song of them all. Ah, there is God again.
My grandmother introduced me to this song years ago and we bond over our love for music. she relates to being a free and gentle flower, growing wild and i believe that relation was passed down to me. the inherited uncertainty of someone who struggled with belonging. never being fully accepted. constantly misunderstood. feeling like an outsider deep inside.
Another reason I love this song is that it is a man singing from the point of view from not only a lover but a father type figure and a defender, protector. He sees her, as someone who has a special eye on her. A special place in his heart for her. That's sweet. And to be honest, that is what every woman ultimately desires. Life gets hard but pure love will keep her soft.
